NOTE: I will have a scrap book on hand with some blank paper. Bring a picture of yourself to add if you like. You can also write your Mia story there!

Hi everyone! This is going to be our 'secret planning page' so please do not share this URL with Mia. Mia knows that we are going to be celebrating her birthday, but she doesn't know the extent to which we are going to honor her. The people on the flyer are just the folks who have worked at or volunteered (adding Marnie) at Sanctuary, honoring Sanctuary's 5th year of doing Zumba.

FYI here's my (Robin Cranford's) Mia story: After my husband passed away in June of 2007 I was looking for a class that would pick me up, a class I could go to and just lose myself. I found Mia's class at San Ramon 24 Hr Fitness in January of 2008. I fell in love with her class from that first day and to this day she is still my favorite instructor. There is something about Mia that radiates from the inside out. Although I've told her that she is my inspiration, I don't think she really knows that she helped me start on this new journey of transformation of life after Bob. I never in a million years dreamed that I would be doing what I'm doing now and I will be forever grateful that she entered my life when she did. She is just an angel in disguise I think.

I submitted this to the Unsung Hero portion of so we decided that even if she didn't get the recognition in Z-Life Magazine, we could give her the recognition ourselves.

Rosy's Mia Story: I stumbled into one of Amelia (Mia) Said’s Zumba classes in November of 2008. I am a person who hates to exercise and I fell in love with her class. Mia’s Zumba classes are my favorite! I believe her classes are true to Beto’s vision of Zumba. Her enthusiasm and her smile are infectious.

Fast forward two and a half years. Mia made me love Zumba so much, that I decided to become an instructor. This is probably a story that many ZINs will recount of their mentors, but with Mia, there are many successful ZINs who became ZINs because of Mia. Me, Leah Repsher, Miguel Barajas, Alex Higueros, Sheyla Culligan, Josie Soberal, Bryan De Guzman, Brenda Grant, Luis Oliva, Maria Luisa Fraile and Amalia Baron, just to name a few, are all ZINs because of Mia’s encouragement and because she infected us with her love for Zumba.

Not only does she encourage us, but she always steps in to help someone in need, with no thought of compensation for herself. There have been students in her class who have asked her to conduct a Zumbathon or Master Class for causes including, feeding the needy, helping out a financially strapped school and more. Not only does she donate her time, but she helps the new instructors by allowing them to participate in the Master Classes.

We are all grateful to have found her. She is well respected and loved in our community. Many say she is the best!
